Lost in Translation-Mike

Well Alli and I were supposedto see each other this weekend but i just found out this morning that we have a survival test on saturday on our cooking skills so it looks like we wont see each other until our mid center days on the 4th. I do have a funny story though. "Sain Bain oo" means how are you in mongolian. Just yesterday our teacher was saying that we have to watch our pronunciation of "bain" because if you draw out the "a" it changes the meaning of the question slightly. So instead of asking how someone is doing your asking them, and i am not making this up, how are they pooping today. I swear to god. No wonder people look at me like im a lunatic. I told our teacher that would have been a good lesson on the first day of training not 4 weeks in. Sorry this one is so short but i gotta go.
Matt and Alli-congratulations happy to hear all is well.
Mom- good news about jazz

sain bain oo - and i mean that in the best possible way!! what a scream your post was, mike. i laughed all morning thinking how many people are now really wondering about the strange american and his rather indelicate greeting......

the sunflowers are about two feet tall, some have flower heads forming already. i will take pictures as soon as they start to bloom. it is that time of year, though, that the cursed japanese beetles are arriving. i am a very green person and live my life light on the land if i can help it, but there are no holds barred when it comes to japanese beetles. ever since they killed my gorgeous japanese maple two years ago (yes, literally ate it almost to death). so, last night i told aav-bri to find the japanese beetle spray and put on his goggles - it's time to attack! buggers....

nohoo-jackson is having a hard time with his allergies, they always erupt around this time of the year. blowing his coat and itching, poor nohoo. he gets two benadryl a day and it helps a little.

new boarder horse coming today, 17.2 hand thoroughbred named, appropriately tiny. this guy is a full 14 inches taller than jazzy. jazzy will really look like a pocket pal next to him!! but, what he lacks in size he makes up for in sheer determination, he's our pitbull!

what it the word for 'horse' in mongolian?

love you both. good luck on the tests, we know you will do fine.

Hey
It's probably a good thing that you were't able to actually eat a gamburger---could have been true mystery meat and then your greeting about the bain would have been all too true! Glad all is well! It's a steamy hot summer in NC and we are praying for rain. Headed to Chicago next week for all of the July birthdays---Luke, Lavonne and Lenny and to see everyone. Thanks for all of the newsy messages---we love hearing about what you are doing---and we love you! Aunt D

Hey!
It's probably a good thing that you were not able to actually eat one of those gamburgers---could have been true mystery meat that would have made your "bain" greeting all too true for you! Glad all is well there. We love hearing about all the details. We're headed to Chicago next week for a visit and all of the July b-days: Luke, Lenny & Lavonne; and to see Luke's new batchelor pad---yes, a story there. Love you guys! dcl

sain bain oo to you, either way...how are you? I'm not as astute as your dad, I'm unable to differeniate who's writing, Mike or Alli, not that it matters...starting to think that Alli is funnier but after this last post I'm not too sure. You guys sound great, just what we wanted to know.

Marcy, Annie and I ran in to one of your friends (mike's) on 294 near o'hare...we were stuck in traffic, he was driving a BR Park District van, I'm sure you get the rest. He said and I quote "Mike is the Best", we of course know this, but it's always good to hear.

Grandma says that you don't want any more care packages until you are settled in your new abode. Is that really true? Too bad for you, I found really lightweight things to send but will wait for your instructions.

Dad dragged me over to Morton Arboretum today, not quite kicking and screaming...after passing it for 20 something years he finally got in. Next stop the French Market. We are becoming so domesticated I barely recognize us anymore.

I'm finding your blog so interesting, keep it up...can't imagine how it would feel not to be able to read about your comings and goings since you're not able to call us. We love you so much.

Nancy and dad too.

Dad,

How are you pooping today. I have just one thing to add to Nancy's post. Pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures, pictures, and pictures.

Love you both, give angel face a kiss for me and don't forget...pictures.

We love you and miss you so much. i copied your whole blog and put it in my newsletter this time. New page called Mumblings from Mongolia

Hey guys!! Glad to hear you are doing well. Sorry about the long gap in writing. I have not gotten a computer yet for my place so I dont get to check my e mail and play that often on the computer. Hilarious about the greeting/pooping! I will crack up all day about that one.

I dont know how you guys do it. Not seeing each other and not showering. Talk about some will power that I was never born with. Glad to hear you guys are seeing each other on a more regular basis now. Cant wait till you guys pass your tests and become offical "volunteers". Then you get to live together again. How exciting!!

So you guys miss burgers huh? I bet we could send you some portillos and white castles cuz I know that they do that. I will make a care package. Figured I would go in the second wave since everyone else is sending stuff now.
Funny Rupe got back from China two weeks ago or so and was saying how weird it was that she had missed out on the last year of pop culture and had no clue about music, fashion etc... I figured you guys wouldnt care too much but if you want some cd's or magazines please tell me and I will get a pile together. I dont want you two coming back too overwhelmed.

Everything is pretty good here. Settled in my place finally...

Miss you both and love you good luck this week xoxox
